Big ride today to Lecce. We had a difficult time finding the route out of town. I did manage to get us to the right exit gate, but we were looking down at a skinny wrong way road from an elevated level with just a long set of stairs down and thought ‘this won‘t work!‘
So if you look closely at the Strava map you‘ll find a bunch of meandering circles at the start.
We managed to find the coastal route and through the wind we made our way to Cataldo, where we discovered no rooms. So an extra 10 k of severe head wind into Lecce. We found an isolate town, all shut up for Easter, with heavy winds blowing. We were feeling quite desperate at this point. We found a six story hotel, but it was locked up tight!
We kept riding to find the ‘centro‘ but didn‘t have a local map, when suddenly two western cyclists rode by and said ‘follow us!‘
We found the centro with its many churchs, hotels, bars and rooms. We followed them into their hotel, but decided 140€ was just a little steep for us.
We found a B&B for much less, joined our new friends Ant and Berem and headed out for a wonderful walk with literately thouands of people roaming the streets.
