We left Mires taking the back road to Pirgo. Great little towns, got lost once and ended up on a local road into Vagionia. Had cup of coffee with the old men sitting in wicker chairs on the street.
Pirgos was preparing for Mardi Gras celebrations, but we managed to find the lady who kept the key to a 15th century church with amazing frescos on the walls.
We arrived early so decided to forge ahead to Viannos not realizing we had about 600 meters of vertical to climb.
We arrived in Viannos thirsty, out of water and tired, only to find there was no place to stay. We hung around for a bit but were uncomfortable with the huge party (kind of a mix between Halloween, Mardi Gras, and New Years with all the floats)
We decided to press on to Mirtos on the coast where we were able to find a choice of rooms.
It was definitely our biggest day so far, 105 k‘s with over a 650 meter climb.
Really worth having a look at the Strava stats on the right. It‘s broken into three legs, the first time to change the phone battery, and the next because I assumed we were finished when we reached Viannos.
